"That entire weekend, while you’re introducing me to your classmates and hugging everyone incessantly, I’ll be all but mute with amazement. I can’t believe that you, a grown woman taller than me and beautiful enough to make my heart ache, will be the same girl I used to lift off the ground so you could reach the drinking fountain, the same girl who used to trundle out of my bedroom draped in a dress and hat and four scarves from my closet."
- Story of Your Life, by Ted Chiang
There is always something wonderful about the books I read. Beautiful moments like this blended a science fiction are rare. When the usual alien stories portrays war and domination, Story of Your Life addresses the problem of communicating with them.
That is just one part of the story. The other beautiful side is the relationship between a Mom and her daughter. The line above is really beautiful and touching and assume that would be the dream of every woman who wants to be a Mother.
I feel good every time I read it.
